Who we are

Our Approach

Match Healthcare Design & Innovation advocates for health and health outcomes, through  healthcare quality & patient safety partnerships. Our vision is to be a recognized leader in creating and maintaining high reliability in healthcare organizations; restoring health to healthcare and ensuring a healthier tomorrow, together globally.

Our Story

I started Match Healthcare Design and Innovation in 2010, partnering with healthcare leaders and patients to improve quality and efficiency, involving people, process and outcomes. My passion for improving healthcare quality developed after the preventable death of my brother, John and after years of seeing good people struggle with complexity and defects in the healthcare system.

John was 34 years of age when he acquired a preventable healthcare associated infection. I often think of the years we could have spent together, laughing, crying, and enjoying the small wonderful moments I then took for granted. I remember when John showed me how to tie my shoe for the first time, and I became so frustrated and threw my shoe at him. His advice was “life is what you make of it, and you cannot go barefoot all of your life.” John was the life of the party, you know the type, the person who lights up a room and knows how to make everyone smile even when they don’t feel like it. John had real hopes and dreams, and shared them in his diaries we would later read after his death.

My father also died at the age of 53 from a disease that is now detectable through preventative early healthcare screenings, and treatments are now much more advanced saving lives each and every day. With primary care, and successful transitions of care throughout the continuum, my father might still be with us today, and able to hold his grandchildren and great grandchildren in his arms.

Each day, there are defects in our healthcare system that result in injury to patients. There are also thousands of healthcare providers who are leaving the business due to burnout and fatigue. Despite improvements in outcomes over the last 10 to 15 years, we still have much work to do and rarely can we attest to 100% confidence in our health system to safeguard our family; even in our own health systems.

Based on years of research and experience, we developed The Restoration Healthcare Design Model. A scientific, evidenced based model that matches critical factors in Lean Methodology, Chaos Theory, Human Engineering and proven Quality Improvement Strategies to High Reliability. These critical elements are the actual DNA of high reliability in healthcare.

With a team of industry experts, we offer a wide range of healthcare quality and patient safety consulting solutions, supported by the Restoration Healthcare Design Model. Our consultants quickly identify waste, redundancy, and streamline operations focusing on the people, process, environment, structure, culture and outcomes. This scientific approach creates a foundation for ensuring and sustaining high reliability.

As a nurse for almost 30 years, I have frequently been asked by friends or family to review their medical records for discrepancies, billing issues or to interpret a result. The request is usually fueled by a sense of fear, lack of healthcare provider education or fragmented systems, and the patient fell through the crack, wondering what to do next. Match Healthcare is committed to supporting you family and friends by providing Nurse Navigator and Patient Advocate Services. Our Patient Advocates stand ready to accompany your family member in the hospital and Nurse Navigators will follow them throughout the continuum connecting them to important services and breaking through barriers to improved health.

Patient Navigation

Healthcare providers frequently report they are asked by friends and family members to assist in resolving complex medical issues, or to navigate them to valuable resources.

Patients often wish they had someone to assist in resolving the same complex issues and unfortunately sometimes the patient falls through the “cracks” in an often fragmented system.

In a published Correlational Design Study, 329 high risk for readmission patients were studied for over a year and half, and their medication non-adherence was reviewed by a Nurse Researcher. The number one reason for failure to comply to medications was due to socioeconomic issues, with transportation barriers being the biggest. Nurse Navigators were implemented to follow these high risk patients with medication non-adherence, connec them to important resources, provide healthcare education, and support them throughout their healthcare journey. After a year and half the Nurse Navigators were able to successfully reduce readmission rates and improve medication compliance in these high risk patients. Incidentally, the patient and staff satisfaction increased during the period the nurse navigators were implemented.

Match Healthcare Design and Innovation Patient Navigators partner with patients based on individualized specific medical needs, and specialize in those at greatest risk for hospital readmission and ER return visits. The partnership is a collaboration with the patient, and his/her healthcare team, family or community resources.

Each patient with Stroke, Diabetes, Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and Joint Surgery are partnered with a disease specific clinical expert who will walk the patient throughout the healthcare system, communicating with healthcare providers, reviewing medications, identifying and troubleshooting societal needs and language barriers. Our Navigators work with Insurance agencies, pharmacies, specialist and medical supply companies to help our patients comply with important treatment plans to get healthy and stay healthy. Each patient has an individualized plan for improved health outcomes that is tracked, trended, with responses and outcomes closely monitored and documented over a 6 month period.

In recent studies, 98% of Healthcare Executives report the #1 thing that keeps them up at night is ……”Are their patient’s and team members safe?”

When was the last time, the sentinel event action plan from two years ago was monitored for compliance? Can your team members speak to the action plan?

Restoration Healthcare Design Model

The Restoration Healthcare Design Model incorporates complex adaptive, interactive systems that involve people, tools and technology in the work environment to ensure safety, effectiveness and sustainability. Current clients include complex health system executive leadership in the Southern United States and Pacific Northwest.
